STYLE on THE FLY!
An interview with Courtney Wheeler and Lariana Santiago, Costumers of The Bear
LOOK AT THESE TWO!!! The Bear has introduced me to so many worlds I knew very little about. Among a crew of 200+ humans who make the show possible, I got to meet and work with these two amazing women. They are equal parts fun, creative, kind, inspiring, and extremely hard working.
No matter how busy we were filming, I found time to sneak down to their costume laboratory: racks and racks of clothing, rows upon rows of shoes, and treasure chests of accessories. All perfectly organized and labeled; everything in its place.
Courtney and Lariana (and their incredible team) help bring our beloved Bear characters to life. They are so thoughtful in planning and executing style from page to the screen; carefully building a world for each character that is deeply personal and meaningful. It’s a blast to watch them work and try to understand their world (and occasionally sift through their racks of clothes and try on a pair of shoes).

Lariana Santiago has an infectious laugh that cheers anyone up a mile away–she is an absolute joy to be around and has a strong vision for all things design. She’s taught me some great one-liners that help guide my own wardrobe journey: “Are you wearing the coat; or is the coat wearing you?” and“ Who is she?!? Where is she going?” when deciding if I NEEDED to buy the shoe, or if I could wait.

Courtney Wheeler is the definition of composed, sexy, and cool. We share a love of all things fashion but also just enjoy yelling “COURT!” to one another. She is a fashion icon and legend. A gal I look to for all fashion tips that she radiates just by being herself she is a wise soul that even in moments of chaos is always cool as a cucumber.
